The America
03:03
|
|||
Always take more than you give
Find absolution in your thoughts and your prayers
No one remembers and nobody cares
Walkin' around with a thousand yard stare
In America
Survive America
The America
Survive America
Head down face in your hands
Walkin' tight ropes without a net or it's
Mindless consumption
And ignorant bliss
Idolizing billions and utopian shit
Contemplations of diaspora
Hard to fault
Fleeing a nation awash in its guns
And so
Grown tired of the pendulum swing
Numb to the violence can't feel anything
In America
Survive America
The America
Survive America
In America
Survive America
The America
Survive America

Status Quo Ante
07:12
|
|||
Tiny tornadoes around his head
And a Tom Waits record in all that he said
Normally seeing the social fabric dissolve
Didn't interest him
It's all just too much
If we don't get what we want we'll just turn you to dust
But the charts and graphs subsumed him
And took him right through to lunch
Oh how so
20th Century
The status quo ante
Aeons of human chaos
Over the whole thing
Oh how so
20th Century
The status quo ante
Aeons of human chaos
Over the whole thing
Oh how so
20th Century
The status quo ante
Aeons of human chaos
Over the whole thing
The status quo ante
Over the whole thing
Over the whole thing
Over the whole thing
Oh how so
20th Century

Rolling Through
04:35
|
|||
Rolling through the centuries
I don't worry
I don't think about it
There's nothing sacred and nothing shocking
And nothing beyond the pale
Rolling through the night
Rolling through
Rolling though the night with you
Rolling through
Not a hill to die on in sight
I'm feeling no pressure
And seeing only light
This life's a misadventure
Trial and error
With no celestial guide
Rolling through the night
Rolling through
Rolling though the night with you
Rolling through

To What End?
04:27
|
|||
Some things are better left unsaid
Sometimes I look for a fight
To what end?
Burned in my mind
Then washed away
I won't see your face
There's no other way
I know that it's out there
Out in the ether
But I won't remember
Won't let it linger
What problem am I trying to solve?
I got a remedy in search of a malady
Oh honey tell me where I went wrong
And how I got so turned around
I'm finding it harder to feel
Sympathy for those with a different view
Of things that I think should be clear
And where we're gonna go from here
When words are no match for fear
And the truth is whatever you feel
Poisoned the well
Just like a silent spring
No more second sight
Knives out for a living
And just like you said
Just like you said to me
"You're over exposed"
Like bad photography
What problem am I trying to solve?
I got a remedy in search of a malady
Oh honey tell me where I went wrong
And how I got so turned around
I'm finding it harder to feel
Sympathy for those with a different view
Of things that I think should be clear
And where we're gonna go from here
Yeah I got some fucking problems

The West
04:50
|
|||
Oh how it feels like the West tonight
That lavender chill
No it won't be so long
Before this scene is gone
It's all these beautiful monstrosities
And yeah the grass is green and long for now
Will the heavens keep it so?
And oh how it feels just like the past tonight
That white battered Moon still clear
And how I don't hear a sound
Cause we get older but not much wiser
And people only change in so many ways
And time might heal all wounds
But time always leaves a scar
And it's all so terrible and it's all so predictable
And it'll happen again and again and again
Still killing for lies and your median lines
And in the future whose version of the past prevails?
And oh how we thought the end of history
Would be such a very, very sad time
Cause we get older but not much wiser
And people only change in so many ways
And time might heal all wounds
But time always leaves a scar
And in the shallows of modernity
Nothing more is true
Everything is power
And power must be used

The Last Three Days
04:10
|
|||
I spent the last three days
Hating you
And if you think of me
I hate myself too
Some things are just too real to say
All lies come into view
If serenity is what you get
When you stop wishing for a different past
Then throw my coins away
I never spent them
Anyways

Feels Like I'm Losing
02:47
|
|||
Feels like I'm losing
Feels like things are upside down
And it feels like everyone else
Is getting ahead in this town
And I'm feeling useless
Like a good guy with a gun
And I feel like drinking
When there's nobody else around
It feels like I'm losing
Like I cannot buy a win
And I'm feeling helpless
Helpless to change
The shape I'm in

Regret
05:36
|
|||
Do you regret it?
No, I wouldn't say "regret"
I didn't mean to end up here like this
I didn't mean to end it
And I don't think much of it these days
But I pay for it
Every time
Can you trust someone?
Are your incentives aligned?
All my grand designs
Come undone
Can you trust someone?
How would you know?
How are you?
I'm good
I'm good
I'm good
I know there's room at the inn
I know what kind of shape you're in
I know there's room at the inn
I know what kind of shape you're in
How are you?
I'm good
I'm good
I'm good

The Better Path
04:09
|
|||
To know is to suffer
Every smile is an act of defiance
Every laugh a protest
Exhausted
From building good days
With bricks of despair
But ultimately
Serenity is our own responsibility
So we forge ahead
Making plans
What greater hope can one have
Than to leave a list?
Yes, the future is bleak
But with progeny
At least there is one to seek
A reason to struggle
To dream
To plan beyond our years
A rationalization?
Perhaps
It is a cruel task
We leave to them
We stacked the deck
We were not ushered through such dire straits in our formative years
But as long as I am here
I will refrain
From letting the shadow of the past
Obscure the better path
And illuminate the darkened corners
Bringing the ghosts into the light
So that they may exorcise those demons
Within and without
And learn not so much from their mistakes
But from our ours
And not suffer from what we failed to know
To walk upright, with ease
To breathe in, deep
To speak, with measured words
To be one’s self
A citizen of the world
And fulfill their native land’s elusive creeds
